RET UNITS
The following are the units/services/office under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension & Training (OVPRET).
Research & Development
The office of Research and Development (R&D) is responsible for advancing research initiatives aligned to the SorSU RET agenda anchored on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating research programs and projects.
Publication and Knowledge Management
The Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) unit is focused on protecting and utilizing knowledge and technology generated from research activities. The unit manages a database of potential technologies for IP protection and licensing, establishes linkages with local and international agencies for IP processing, and oversees externally funded IP-related projects.
Extension & Training
Extension refers to the act of communicating and transferring knowledge and technology to specific sectors and target stakeholders to enable them to effectively improve production, community and/or institution, and quality of life, at the same time enhancing the HEI’s academic and research programs (CMO No. 8, s. 2008).
IP-TBM
The Publication and Knowledge Management (PKM) unit is focused on disseminating and promoting knowledge and technology derived from research activities. The unit formulates editorial policies, organizes qualified referees for peer reviews, and produces various research and extension publications.
Fablab
The establishment of the Sorsogon Fabrication Laboratory as a shared service facility (SSF) aimed at providing support to instruction, research, extension, and production functions of the University in addition to improving the competitiveness of Sorsogon products. Researchers, Extensionists, and other stakeholders may avail of its services as specified in its approved Operations Manual with corresponding applicable approved fees. A specific manual of operations for these shared service facilities provides directions in the operations of the laboratory.

The Pili Roadmap
Sorsogon State University crafted a roadmap that will align all its efforts to illustrate high-level product strategy and demonstrate how Pili production and its by-products will evolve over time. Active involvement and participation of all stakeholders including the national government agencies, local government units, non-/government organizations (N/GOs), academe, and value chain players from the local to the international level are solicited as a strong strategic intervention of this roadmap.
Pili is considered to be the “tree of hope” and has been a valuable commodity in the country because of its many uses which can be derived from all its parts. A number of studies have shown that there are a number of industrial, commercial, environmental and nutritional values that can be obtained from its roots, trunks, branches, leaves, saps and fruits.
The Pili Roadmap is anchored and supports the House Bill No. 7403 which seeks the recognition of Sorsogon as the Pili capital of the Philippines. It is Expected that all programs and projects reflected in the roadmap will be operationalized at the end of 2025, sustaining Sorsogon’s niche as the top producer of Pili in the world.

Botanical Research Center (The Herbarium Sorsogonense)
The Herbarium Sorsogonense main objective is to collect, preserve, and document the rich and diverse species found within Sorsogon. . The Herbarium Sorsogonense has stood out as the sole internationally recognized repository of plant specimens in the entire Bicol region, which holds an extensive collection of marine algae with a modest addition of terrestrial plants from Sorsogon.

Sorsogon Marine Biodiversity Research Center (SMBRC)
The Sorsogon Marine Biodiversity Research Center (SMBRC) seeks to advance marine biodiversity studies and the variety of life on the ocean and seas in Sorsogon. The center advances and shares resources to support knowledge dissemination about marine biodiversity in the province.

Sorsogon Policy Research Center (SorPReCe)
The Sorsogon Policy Research Center (SorPReCe) is the think tank of Sorsogon State University (SorSU) for research and policy development focusing on social issues and concerns along educational management and governance, public administration, and the like.

Sorsogon Food Development Research Center
Sorsogon Food Development Research Center (SFDRC) envisions conducting an innovative wide range of locally and naturally available food sources that promote waste elimination through circularity and valorizations.

Sentro ng Wika, Panitikan at Kultura
Ang Sentro ng Wika, Panitikan at Kultura (SWAK) na nakabase sa Pampamahalaang Pamantasan ng Sorsogon ay nakadisenyo sa adhika na magtataguyod ng mga pananaliksik sa Filipino at iba pang wika para sa kanilang pagpapaunlad, pagpapalaganap, pagpapanatili at pagpapayaman ng kanilang mga kultura, tradisyon, at mga institusyon.

Sorsogon Innovation Technology and Management Research Center (Sor ITMRC)
Sorsogon Innovation Technology and Management Research Center (SorITMRC) is a human tool for creativity and application that will serve as the university’s hub for research and innovation in the field of Computing, Information Technology and Management.

BANAAG: Teachers Training and Development Research Center (TTDRC)
The Sorsogon State University College of Teacher Education “BANAAG” (beam of light) is a Research Center for Teacher Training and Development that models best practices on instructional systems and designs of various disciplines and attributes in producing competent and values-oriented pre and in-service professionals in the teaching profession.

Sorsogon Bamboo Research Center
The Sorsogon Bamboo Research Center (SBRC) will be the premier hub for the innovation and commercialization of bamboo and its products in Sorsogon, and beyond. It can be an active partner/linkage of the various stakeholders from local, regional, national, and international with interests in the bamboo industry.

Sorsogon Pili Lagting Research Center
The Sorsogon Pili Research Center (SorPiliRC) keeps abreast with local and international concerns on pili commodities that promotes its development and conservation for the benefits of various stakeholders. The center will be the leading research-based training center for men and women, pili stakeholders, and highlight pili as the Bicol banner commodity.
